DANCE!

2012

WOW! Happy 2012!

Last year was simply a year filled with blessings. We ventured onto greater things and occasionally stumbled upon challenges. The best part of it all was we had our friends, family and loved ones to comfort us as well as celebrate with us. In the end, we take from life the sheer and immeasurable gift of experience. We err, we learn, we explore, we develop and sooner or later, we triumph. That is our story more or less.

We are constantly in the journey of self discovery, as we evolve into self actualization and fulfilment, year in year out. Here in 2012, we may begin to wonder what the "New Year" holds for us *smiles*. One can only imagine. The one thing I know for sure is that I wish for you to nourish your mind, soul and body. To find your light! Whatever it is that makes you sparkle, shine, excited, feel more alive, joyful and altruism in general. Cherish that light, allow yourself to be illuminated by it and let it shine. Be unafraid to become incandescent!

My prayer for you is that you become everything good you dream and more in 2012. May you find the strength to pursue your dreams and enrich your life with the sheer satisfaction of saying "yes I can, and I have" *smiles*

"Place all negativity of the past into a book, burn the pages and let them cook."

Thank you for a great 2011. Now experience the greatness ahead this 2012 with open arms!

I invite you to ring into the NewYear dancing to this song

Kind Thoughts,

Are We Becoming A Degenerate Society?

Recently, I spent time with certain individuals and we engaged in certain conversations that raised a lot of questions about what we have become as a society today. We look at the main stream media and there is a lot to be concerned about in the world we live in. There are also more personal issues that ranges from self esteem to self image, and what is or is not acceptable which leaves very little to be desired.

I was indulging in my nightly lazy reading of social and entertainment News two nights ago when certain images made me realize that I might be part of the solution or constitute to the problem and hence, this piece of writing. We are constantly bombarded by the media with images of people that represent an ideal dress size or sense of acceptable physical attractiveness which does not represent nor give a realistic account of what is attainable to the average folk. Sadly, these images have crept into our natural spontaneous sense of judgement of how we broadly access, define and in some cases accept people. A truly dismal reality it has become for the most part.

Our expectation of what is classified attractive or beautiful has changed dramatically in the recent decade. We have degenerated into a social culture where the first thing we see is another person's body size and in some cases, evaluate their self-worth based on what they look like. A significant number of people I have spoken to about body image re-affirms the notion that we are losing sight of what is important of which is affecting our human relationships. I am all for healthy living and there are a number of ways we can be healthy while retaining varying body sizes. These days, you look inside a magazine or turn on the TV and all you see is one type of shape and size being shamelessly shoved down our throats making it impossible for the average girl, boy, man or woman to feel remotely representative. It is no wonder why certain advertising campaigns are being banned for being overly altered with all forms of technology available on the market today. It has not only caused various forms of eating disorder amongst people of all age groups especially females, but has also created a warped sense of what beauty really is.

THE WAY FORWARD!

Many wonder how we can get back to a society where we once again begin to appreciate people for the content of their character, the quality of their mind and the action steps they employ to improve their individual worlds and also those surrounding them. Where we can open a magazine and look at an image without thinking that we should hit the gym more or change our diet drastically. A time when being healthy would not mean that we should be a certain body size or shape and this would become main stream. When a public figure would not receive backlash for gaining some extra pounds or feel ashamed of their body because of fear of being criticized. When the headline would not be about how much weight someone has gained or lost. When website visitors refrain from leaving hurtful remarks about an unflattering image of a celebrity or public figure simply because they may or may not have gained some weight. When there is no pressure to be a certain body size and people would not be forced to resort to cosmetic surgery. When it is okay to feel okay about not being the "right size".

We can also re-educate our minds to believe that what we look like physically is only one aspect of our human existence which is not the most important thing about us. We should be able to look into a mirror and see intelligence, wittiness, creativity, awkwardness, charm, capabilities as something that should be of significant essence to our human extension.

Sometimes we find ourselves thinking all the right things; But the saying that action does speak louder could not be more true. Beginning this conversation amongst our social groups, homes, places of work, education centers, game and sport groups e.t.c that there is more than one body size and physical attribute that qualifies as beautiful; And actually meaning those words. This is a real step in the right direction. Many have missed out on opportunities simply because they did not meet certain standards of "acceptable beauty". This has to stop and sooner rather than later, in all ramifications to include the media, entertainment industry, the corporate world e.t.c by people who are in a position to do so.

Most of all, real change begins with one individual. Refuse to be in a position where you are neither for nor against. Let your voice be heard loud and clear. It is imperative that you stand for something and for what is right. When you stand for nothing, you may just fall for anything!

2011: My New Year's Resolution...

I have been away the past several months and I want to apologize to readers of my blog about the hiatus. I needed some time to hone my other crafts and attend to some important components of my life. I am fully present and back, and would continue to write posts on here.

2010 was a very good year for me. I was healthier and happier. I completed my debut album and improved my quality of life. It soon dawned on me that earlier in the year, all I wanted was an increased quality of life which led me to do a ton of things that reflected an enhanced quality of living for me. Towards the end of 2010, I experienced a challenging time as someone deeply close to me passed away. I asked myself what I could have done differently with this special individual and I realised that "time" was the one thing I could have given more. I could have given more of my time, spent more time with this person as it could have been the most meaningful contribution I could have made. It would have been the best part of me. I learned my lesson and this thought ushered me into 2011. I asked myself in December of 2010 the direction I wanted my life to take and I realised that the "gift of time" was the one thing that I would like to explore even more in 2011.

People often think a New Year's resolution is a promise you make to oneself about certain things in one's life. Well it's more than just a goal. A New Year's resolution, is a state of mind. It's a gift that you give yourself in the New Year to experience something profound, different, and inspire a new kind of motivation and perspective. It's a conscious, fresh experience that you are giving yourself, an opportunity to enlighten yourself in a way that would elevate your state of mind. For instance, if your New Year's resolution is to lose 20kg then that might be really challenging to attain and in most cases many do not as it's nothing but a goal with very little mental commitment. On the contrary, if your New Year's resolution is to "feel amazing" to be a fantastic human being, your state of mind has experienced a sudden enlightenment and realisation to the fact that to feel amazing, you have to do certain things to get you to that state of feeling amazing. You begin to take action steps that enables your state of mind in attaining that sense of self and feeling.

Firstly, you begin to eat healthily, you want to put things into your body that would make you feel amazing all the way not just momentarily. You start to do things to look amazing like taking care of your body, and as a result begin an exercise routine that would put you in a state of feeling amazing. You look around you and find activities that would make you feel amazing which includes spending time with people who produce this feeling and those that do not, you keep away from or prune carefully from your life. You engage in dialogues that make you feel amazing and read literature and materials that makes you feel amazing. You go to places that make you feel amazing and in a short while, your new found choice of lifestyle will create a dynamic change to reflect your state of mind which is TO FEEL AMAZING. That's the power of a New Year's resolution.

The difference between a New Year's resolution and a goal can be clearly seen in the "feel Amazing" illustration. When people are aware of the positive effect of a New Year's resolution, they would be more open to the perspective and reality that such a conscious decision can make remarkable changes in one's life. It's much more than a goal, it's a lifestyle that you would experience all through the year.

My resolution for 2011 is to make every moment count. I want the time I spend by myself and with others around me to count; Which means I'll spend more time doing the things that put a smile on my face and makes my life more meaningful. I'll spend time with people I care about and people who love me and vice versa. I'll add meaning and value to the things I invest my time in; Whether it's people or experiences. I'll endeavour to enjoy the things I do and make it all the more worthwhile. This state of mind would increase my awareness for a better quality of life. I'm looking forward to my experiences this year to make every moment count. Will there be challenges in keeping the light burning all through 2011? Possibly, but "when there's a Will, there's a way". It's certainly worth the effort and time.

What is your New Year's resolution? Think on it and then begin a riveting journey.

Have a remarkable 2011 and a beautiful story on your lips at most times.

Yours Truly,

K.C Nwokoye.
